A Wisconsin man has been arrested by Iowa City Police after he allegedly assaulted a woman following a dispute over disciplining children.

According to arrest records, 32-year-old Donald Franklin of Milwaukee was staying with the alleged victim at her Broadway Street apartment over the summer. On July 30th, he allegedly scolded the woman’s children, making her upset. The woman kicked Franklin out of the residence, but he returned a short time later to gather his things. While at the apartment, Franklin allegedly confronted the woman in a bathroom, striking her multiple times in the face causing a bloody nose and possible facial injuries. He then fled the scene.

Police encountered Franklin at the Broadway Street Casey’s just after 5:00 Saturday night. They say he refused to step out of his vehicle and locked the door when he was told there was a warrant for his arrest. Franklin reportedly refused further commands to exit his car and had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle.

Franklin is now charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
