The Iowa State Patrol says a suspected drunk driver presented a trooper with a key ring, a receipt and her car’s owner’s manual when asked for her ID during a North Liberty traffic stop.

The trooper reports pulling over a 2007 Honda Civic that left Casey’s on Heartland Drive just before 12:30 Thursday morning, then crossed Penn Street against a red light. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Madeline Mills of Lindsay, Oklahoma, allegedly showed signs of intoxication. A bottle of vodka could reportedly be seen in the passenger seat.

When asked for her driver’s license, insurance information and registration, Mills allegedly gave the trooper a key ring. When asked a second time, she allegedly gave the officer a receipt and the instruction manual for her car.

The State Patrol says Mills performed poorly on field sobriety tests conducted in the nearby Kum & Go parking lot, refused breath testing, and stated several times she knew she had made a mistake.

A clerk at Casey’s reported that Mills had trouble keeping her balance inside the store to the point she needed physical assistance to keep from falling.

Mills is charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
