Hawkeye soccer advances to Sweet 16 of NCAA Tournament

The 3rd-seeded University of Iowa soccer team defeated #6 seed Georgetown, 1-0, on Friday night in Los Angeles in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes advance to the Round of 16 for the first time in program history.

It was a defensive battle in the first 45 minutes as the Hawkeyes and Hoyas combined for six total shots, three apiece.

The Hawkeye defense didn’t allow a shot on goal in the first half.

Meike Ingles broke the scoring drought in the 54th minute with her seventh goal of the season, giving Iowa the only goal of the game.

The Hawkeyes next face 7th seeded Virginia Tech, which upset regional hosat UCLA late Friday night 2-1. The Round of 16 match will take place on Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. (CT) in Los Angeles. The game can be seen on ESPN+.
