Recent snowfall leads to accidents on Highway 218 south of Iowa City

The recent snowfall led to slippery conditions that caused multiple accidents south of Iowa City early Thursday.

According to Washington County dispatch records, just after 1 a.m. a semi jackknifed on Highway 218 just north of the Riverside exit. There were no reported injuries, but Riverside firefighters were called to deal with a spill from a punctured fuel tank.

Just after 4:15 a.m. a semi rolled over on Highway 218 near Ainsworth. The driver was able to walk to a nearby gas station and did not require hospitalization.
Another accident was reported on Highway 218 near Ainsworth just after 5:30 a.m.

Two more accidents were reported near Riverside between 5:30 and 6 a.m.: One on Highway 22 near the Highway 218 interchange and another involving a car going into a ditch near the intersection of 105th Street and Red Oak Avenue. The driver in the Highway 22 crash was transported to University of Iowa Health Care.
