A special election will be held to fill departing Iowa City city counselor Andrew Dunn.
At Tuesday’s Council meeting, they indicated preference of the special election rather than an appointment, saying they wanted the public to have a chance to pick the new council member.
Dunn’s resignation goes into effect January 1st; the latest date a special election could be held would be around the first of May. If three or more candidates file to run, a primary would be necessary ahead of the special election.
Mayor Bruce Teague said the council intends to have an item on their December 10th meeting to officially vote on holding the special election, which would include the earliest date and other potential dates for the election.
