As the University of Iowa’s Alpha Delta Phi fraternity has suspended operations while an investigation is launched into a hazing incident involving 56 blindfolded pledges who had food thrown on them early Friday, the frat is not alone.

The Gazette reports the University of Iowa is or has investigated three other Greek chapters this fall.

Two are facing hazing allegations and the third is accused of violating the university’s alcohol policy. Sanctions are pending, although all three are cooperating with investigators and working toward a solution.

At Alpha Sigma Phi, it’s alleged that earlier this semester, new members were blindfolded at dinner and were forced to drink water with vinegar in it. On a different occasion, new members were made to drink a half gallon of milk and then engage in physical activity until they vomited.

The Office of Student Accountability also received reports of new pledges being forced to wear embarrassing outfits and engage in degrading activities.

Agreed-upon sanctions for the fraternity include disciplinary probation through May 2025, with additional violations resulting in more severe punishment.

Phi Kappa Psi was sanctioned after they reportedly hosted an August 31st tailgate at 300 Melrose Avenue, with neighbors reporting attendees spilling onto another property, urinating outside and throwing garbage.  They agreed to take action to mitigate further misconduct.

And Alpha Kappa Alpha was accused of potential hazing aimed at excluding potential members during an incident on September 26th.  The sorority’s interim suspension was lifted following a meeting on October 7th.
