An Iowa City man was arrested after it was discovered items he pawned were stolen.
Police say 23-year-old Skylor Tinnes of Deerfield Drive went to Play it Again Sports on 1st Avenue the afternoon of September 25th, attempting to sell $840 worth of disc golf discs and a disc golf bag that had been stolen. Tinnes provided his name and contact information to an employee. The employee informed Tinnes that the items had been reported stolen and police would be contacted.
Tinnes left before police arrived.
The next afternoon, Tinnes allegedly took additional items that he had stolen from the same victim, worth about $240, to Money and More on Riverside Drive and was able to successfully pawn them. Tinnes reportedly provided his Iowa ID and contact information to an employee.
Both incidents were reportedly captured on surveillance video, showing Tinnes in possession of the stolen items.
A warrant was issued on Friday; Tinnes was served the same day and charged with 3rd degree theft. He could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted.
