An aid at a Coralville senior living facility is accused of overmedicating a resident to make her job “easier”.

Coralville Police say 69-year-old Sandra Price-Elder of 20th Avenue was working at Brown Deer Place on 1st Avenue on July 8th when she was spotted with an oral medication syringe that had nearly six times the amount of medication that had been prescribed to her patient. An investigation determined the medicine had been ordered more frequently than necessary.

Price-Elder allegedly told police that she had been overmedicating the resident starting in late April. She reportedly said she had been using the higher amount of medication to sedate the person to make her job easier. Police say Price-Elder’s role at the facility is to provide care in the form of meals, medications and hygienic needs.

Price-Elder is charged with Wanton Neglect of a Health Care Facility Patient, Administering Harmful Substances, and Dependent Adult Abuse. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of eight years in prison.
