An Ely man who had previously eluded a state trooper during an alleged speeding incident was arrested for OWI and then accused of bringing cocaine into the Johnson County Jail.
Arrest records indicate Monday just after 9pm the trooper observed a red sedan that he had attempted to turn around on earlier in the night for having a defective muffler and passing cars in a no passing zone while going over the speed limit. The driver, 20 year old Cade Stout, was able to hide from the trooper, but was stopped in Shueyville.
Stout alleged that someone else was driving his vehicle when the trooper first saw him. He reportedly had the odor of ingested alcohol as he stood outside the sedan. He agreed to field testing, but refused to continue because he said he was cold.
Stout was taken to the Coralville PD where a breath test showed his alcohol level at .122 percent. He was then taken to the Johnson County Jail on a OWI second offense charge. He was then allegedly discovered with three baggies of cocaine in his wallet.
Stout could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison if convicted on both charges.
