A Coralville man has been charged with his 3rd OWI after allegedly driving drunk to a business in the Riverfront Crossings complex on South Gilbert Street in Iowa City.

The incident reportedly occurred Wednesday at 7:49pm.  66-year-old Michael Burke  of Norcor Avenue was called in by the business’ staff for being loud and agitated.  Upon arrival, officers found Burke’s car parked poorly and the driver’s side door still open.  Burke admitted that he had moved the vehicle in the parking lot.

He showed signs of intoxication including bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and ingested alcohol on his breath.  Burke performed field tests but refused chemical testing.

A check of his records showed his driving status as revoked for OWI to October 2027.

Burke was charged with 3rd offense OWI, Driving while Revoked, Driving while Barred, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he could face a prison sentence of over 8 years.
