Teen charged after allegedly leading Johnson County deputies on high-speed chase last week

A 15-year-old has been charged after allegedly leading Johnson County deputies on a high-speed chase last week.

According to a Wednesday morning news release, last Thursday a deputy encountered a vehicle driving at 92mph in a 55mph speed zone near Kent Park. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver refused to stop and eluded for approximately seven miles, reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour. The driver lost control and crashed near Swan Lake Road NW and Half Moon Ave NW. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The 15-year-old driver is now charged with Felony Eluding, Unsafe Passing, Violation of Intermediate Graduated Driver’s License, Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device (Stop Sign), Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device (Road Closed Sign), and two counts of Speeding.
