Cedar Rapids man charged with theft after allegedly taking hundreds in items from grocery store

A Cedar Rapids man was charged after he allegedly stole hundreds in merchandise from an area grocery store.

According to the criminal complaint, 41-year-old Hunter Campbell of 14th Avenue SE was seen leaving the same vehicle as another individual. The two entered the Cross Park Road HyVee in Coralville the evening of September 22nd  at slightly different times.

Campbell allegedly selected merchandise, placed the items in a shopping cart, and exited the store past all points of sale without an attempt to pay for the items.

Campbell reportedly exited the store by manually unlocking an entrance door.  He allegedly took over $700 in merchandise.

Campbell was charged with 4th degree Theft, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a  maximum one year prison sentence if convicted.
