A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly assaulting a North Liberty woman.
The victim called 911 just before 7:30am to report an in-progress physical assault. When authorities arrived, the woman came out of the garage in tears with visible injuries, and said the suspect, 38-year-old Courtney Beard, had fled the scene.
After officers cleared the residence, paramedics arrived on scene to treat the woman. She reportedly complained of pain on the face, head, neck, shoulder and knees. She also pointed to visible bruising on her neck, and alleged that Beard grabbed her around her throat and squeezed, making it impossible for her to swallow.
Beard was located by a patrol car in the area and was arrested. He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow and Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison.
