A patient at the University of Iowa Healthcare main campus was arrested after he allegedly struck a nurse.

30-year-old Austin Christensen of Southgate Avenue was at the U at approximately 9:30pm Monday when the incident occurred. According to the police report, Christensen struck the nurse who was trying to care for him across the face with the back of his hand.

His actions caused the nurse’s glasses to fly off her head. She complained of a headache and had redness in the area she was struck.

Christensen was charged with Assault on Person in Certain Occupations causing Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.

Christensen was also charged with two separate 1st degree Theft counts in September. The second one, on September 30th, allegedly involved Christensen stealing a car from downtown Iowa City. When stopped, he allegedly stated that he was just going to drive the vehicle around. He was to be arraigned Friday but reportedly failed to appear, prompting another warrant for his arrest.
