An Iowa City man faces assault and OWI charges after an incident involving his wife Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to the Adams Street residence of 48-year-old Charles Hipes on report of a physical fight between a man and a woman.  Hipes fled the scene in a vehicle with his wife in tow. Witnesses stated that Hipes was physically assaultive towards the woman and at one point threw furniture at her, causing an injury to her face.

Officers  caught up with the couple in a Chevrolet Silverado with Hipes behind the wheel. The woman, his wife, was reportedly found with an injury to her face as previously described.  Hipes allegedly showed signs of intoxication on field testing and provided a PBT with a breath-alcohol level of .111 percent.
