A Cedar Rapids man faces a felony charge and others after an alleged assault last month.

Police say the afternoon of October 16th, 20-year-old Mekhi  Wright of Sugar Creek Drive NW punched a victim in the face while at the Lantern Park Plaza in Coralville. A warrant for his arrest was issued, and he remained at large until Friday night, when he was located at the scene of the incident.

Officers told Wright he was not free to leave, but he allegedly ran from them.  During the foot pursuit, Wright reportedly was observed with a handgun in his hand.  Upon closer examination, the weapon was identified as a CO2 pistol with a magazine containing 16 live 9mm rounds.

Wright is ineligible to carry weapons due to a felony conviction in September.

He was charged with Assault causing Injury for the October incident, and faces additional charges of Interference with Official Acts, Interference with Official Acts involving a firearm, and Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. If convicted on all counts, Wright could be sentenced to over 7 years in prison.
