A Jones County man is accused of sending sexual texts to what he believed was a 15-year-old girl in Iowa City.
23-year-old Hunter Kirkpatrick of Monticello was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 9:45 Friday morning. Iowa City Police say Kirkpatrick used Meta to text the other party with messages soliciting her for sexual purposes. The messages included what are described as graphic sexual details about what he would do to her and vice-versa.
Police say Kirkpatrick stopped texting the other person when his girlfriend saw the messages. He later allegedly denied to investigators that he sent the messages, although a warrant served on his Meta account and phone carrier reportedly indicated otherwise.
Kirkpatrick is charged with Grooming. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
