Criminal charges have been filed in the death of an Iowa City bicyclist earlier this year.
41-year-old Ashlee Hopkins died on September 23rd, shortly after she was taken off life support.
Iowa City Police were called to the 3300 block of Rohret Road just after 4:00 on the afternoon of September 15th after Hopkins was struck by a minivan while on the Iowa City Bike Library’s Farm Cycle Ride.
The driver of the minivan…77-year-old Ok Soon Lee of Iowa City…is now charged with Failure to Maintain Control, Speeding, and Failure to Drive on the Right-Hand Side of the Roadway. The investigation found no evidence of intoxication or cell phone use.
If convicted on all charges, Lee faces a maximum of 30 days in jail, almost $2,000 in fines, and a possible six-month suspension of her license.
