A water main break on the north side of Coralville has led to classes being canceled for the day at four schools, but officials say the water remains safe for drinking and cooking.
According to a release from the city, Coralville Water Department staff was alerted early Monday of an issue in the water system south of Interstate 80. The water main break led officials at the Iowa City Community School District to cancel classes at Borlaug, Coralville Central and Kirkwood Elementary schools, as well as Northwest Middle School.
Classes were being held as usual in all other Iowa City District schools.
The City said the Water Department was able to identify and address the break before it became more widespread. Because there was no loss of pressure, and after consultation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the city says Coralville water remains available and safe for drinking, cooking and other uses.
