A Coralville man faces charges he led Johnson County deputies on high-speed chase down Highway 218.
The sheriff’s office says just before 6:45 Saturday night a deputy tried to pull over a 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class that was speeding at 118 miles per hour on southbound Highway 218 just north of the Highway 1 exit. The vehicle reportedly sped up when the officer activated his lights and siren, at one point passing a slower vehicle on the left shoulder. The chase lasted several miles before the driver, identified as 38-year-old Henry Herrera of Holiday Road, was taken into custody. Herrera…who has a previous eluding conviction… allegedly showed signs of intoxication, asked the same questions over and over despite having them answered, and refused all sobriety and breath testing.
Herrera is charged with Felony Eluding – 2nd or Subsequent Offense and Operating While Intoxicated. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 11 years in prison.
