Iowa City Police say a Black Hawk County woman fled on foot from the scene of a personal injury accident early Saturday morning.

According to arrest records, 23-year-old Lauren Morgan of Cedar Falls crashed her 2019 Honda Accord into road fixtures near the intersection of Highway 6 and South Riverside Drive just after 2:30 a.m. A passenger suffered a cut on his hand requiring stitches, which he later received at a local hospital.

Both Morgan and the passenger reportedly fled on foot and were found a short time later in a nearby apartment complex parking lot. Morgan allegedly admitted to being the driver, showed signs of intoxication, and registered a breath alcohol level of .172%.

Police allegedly found an electronic THC vape pen in Morgan’s purse, but she reportedly alleged someone else had put it in there while she was at a party.

Morgan is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum of over four years in jail.
