An Iowa City man was taken into custody last week after allegedly assaulting a woman who has a no-contact order against him.

19-year-old Devon Porter allegedly had contact with the woman on the 600 block of South Lucas Street at around 6:15pm Tuesday.  According to the police report, Porter hit the woman in the face, causing her lip to bleed and cause an abrasion on the inside of her upper lip.  The woman had swelling on her left cheek.

Porter also allegedly pulled the woman by her hair and wrestled with her on the ground.

He was arrested and charged with Assault on Subject involved in No Contact Order and a contempt charge for violating the order. He could be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison if convicted.
