A Des Moines man was arrested on a warrant stemming from a 2020 incident where he allegedly stabbed a man in Iowa City multiple times.
Police say the incident occurred January 14th of that year at approximately 10:47pm. 23-year-old Jeremiah Banks of Hubbell Avenue was reportedly involved in an altercation with the victim under the Benlon St./lowa River bridge. Banks allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. The victim suffered seven stab wounds under his left arm and one stab wound under his right arm.
Banks reportedly admitted to stabbing the victim, and he was in possession of a bloody knife at the time of arrest.
Banks was given a 2 year suspended sentence along with two years of probation. Charges of Going Armed with Intent and Willful Injury causing Bodily Injury were dismissed at sentencing.
Court records show a probation violation in April 2020 which caused a warrant for his arrest. He remained at large until he was served Friday. A hearing is scheduled for December 13th. He could be sentenced to up to two years if his probation is revoked.
