Four University of Iowa students are accused of vandalizing a Pancheros restroom…with one allegedly also stealing a fraternity sign.
Iowa City Police received a report of a group of subjects damaging a restroom sink at Pancheros on South Clinton Street just after 12:15 Thursday morning. The suspects were found a short time later near the intersection of Clinton and Fairchild Streets, with one of them reportedly carrying a Sigma Pi fraternity sign. The suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Daniel Richards of Currier Hall, allegedly dropped the sign and tried to flee before being captured near the intersection of Clinton and Church Streets. Police say Richards was shirtless, showed signs of intoxication, and was in possession of a fake ID
A second suspect in the Pancheros case, 19-year-old Hunter Carlson of Currier Hall, was reportedly in possession of Richards’ shirt, showed signs of intoxication, and was also in possession of a fake ID.
Both suspects are charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, Public Intoxication, and Possession of a Fake ID. If convicted on those charges, they each face a maximum of over three years in jail.
Richards faces added charges of 5th Degree Theft and Interference With Official Acts. Those two counts carry a maximum combined sentence of 60 days in jail.
Two other suspects have since been charged in the Pancheros case. 18-year-old Griffin Horne and 19-year-old Lucas Glasson…who are roommates at Stanley Hall…are also each charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief.
