Solon man charged with witness tampering

A Solon man who was arrested on various felonies has been charged with threatening and intimidating a witness.

Police arrested 36-year-old Jerome Smith on October 3rd for a controlled substance violation, being a felon in control of a firearm, and interference with official acts with the use of a weapon. He allegedly supplied fentanyl to a person who later died due to acute intoxication.

Since his incarceration, Smith allegedly has contacted the witness by phone and letter. He reportedly has made threats to harm the victim, the victim’s family ,and their known associates.  In addition, local law enforcement has logged multiple incidents where Smith allegedly instructed subjects to go to the victim’s residence to intimidate them.

A warrant was issued on Monday; Smith was served while in custody Tuesday. A no-contact order was issued by Judge Brandon Schrock the following day. He’s been charged with Witness Tampering, a Class C Felony punishable by a prison term of up to ten years if convicted.
