Iowa City Police say a transient broke into an apartment while the resident was still present.

According to arrest records, just before 5:30 Tuesday night witnesses reported seeing 28-year-old Jaetecia Higgins opening a window to a residence in the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street and climbing inside. A tenant was present, and told investigators that once Higgins was inside, she refused to leave.

Higgins was eventually removed by police. As she was being walked to the patrol car, she reportedly went limp and tried lying on the ground.

Higgins is charged with 2nd Degree Burglary and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, she faces a maximum of over ten years in prison.

Higgins was arrested earlier this year for allegedly hitting another person with a landscaping brick on the 500 block of Southgate Avenue, burglarizing Formosa Sushi Restaurant on East College Street, and shoplifting 40 items at once from the downtown Target.
