A woman accused of abducting her 11-year-old daughter is back in Iowa City and has now been formally charged.

36-year-old Ronique Pittman of Goldsboro, North Carolina faces a charge of Violation of a Custodial Order By A Relative. Iowa City Police say Pittman took the child from a Broadway Street apartment despite her parental rights being terminated on May 5th of 2022, and her having no custodial rights to the girl.

The juvenile was reported missing just before 8:30 Sunday night, and Iowa City Police contacted Indiana State Police to warn them that Pittman might be driving through their state on her way to North Carolina.

Pittman’s a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix was located early Monday morning by a state trooper at a gas station in Indianapolis.  The child was in the vehicle with two adults and was unharmed. Pittman was taken into custody and extradited to Iowa City, where she arrived on Tuesday.

If convicted, Pittman faces a maximum of five years in prison.
