A transient faces an assault charge after allegedly groping a woman on the Ped Mall.

Iowa City Police say a witness reported that 33-year-old Robert Robinson was following him and the alleged victim just before 6:15 last Sunday night when Robinson grabbed the woman’s butt in front of the Iowa City Public Library. Robinson allegedly continued following the woman before finally leaving.

Robinson is charged with Assault – Insulting or Offensive Contact. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 30 days in jail. Trial is set for December 5th.

Robinson was sentenced to 90 days in jail last July after a fight and ensuing break-in at the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street. He was given a one-year prison sentence after he was found intoxicated and walking away from his crashed car with his pants around his ankles in 2001. One year earlier, he was given a ten-day jail sentence for crashing his car into light poles on the Coralville Strip during a chase with police.
