Recent data indicates despite a new vaccine coming out to defend against the Omicron variant of COVID-19, less than 16 percent of Iowans have been immunized.
KCRG TV reports Johnson County numbers are much better but not as high as they should be. Fewer than 50,000 people have been vaccinated, leaving roughly 110,000 still without immunization.
Johnson County Public Health Community Health Division Manager Sam Jarvis says the county is seeing a slight surge in COVID case numbers, so they are urging people to not delay getting vaccinated.
Officials say a combination of political beliefs and people feeling burnt out about the numerous COVID and flu vaccines that have come out since the 2020 pandemic are the reasons for the low vaccination rates.
Jarvis encourages all Iowans to speak to a health care professional to help decide what’s best for them.
