A Coralville man who allegedly stole cash from a victim after he left his account open in an ATM has been arrested.

The incident occurred at the US Bank branch on West Cherry Street in North Liberty.  On the afternoon of February 24th, the victim went through the ATM lane and deposited money using their debit card and pin number. After the deposit was completed, the victim drove away, failing to take his card and close his account.

34-year-old Dejuan Scott of Boston Way was a passenger in the vehicle directly behind the victim.  The driver pulled up and told Scott that the victim’s account was still open and was asking if they wanted to make another transaction.  Scott left the vehicle, went to the machine and withdrew $500 from the account.

During a subsequent investigation, the driver of the vehicle identified Scott as the person who withdrew the money. Still-frame photos from the incident also confirmed Scott’s identity.

A warrant was issued, and Scott was arrested. He’s been charged with 4th degree theft and unauthorized use of a credit card. If convicted on both counts, Scott could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
