Area transient who had been sleeping outside Coralville hotel arrested for assaulting and threatening staff

An unhoused individual was arrested Wednesday after allegedly assaulting and threatening the staff of a hotel.

28-year-0ld Ryan Mellor went into the Home2 Suites on Coral Ridge Avenue in Coralville despite being officially trespassed from the location in June. He was asked to leave the premises. Mellor then allegedly assaulted hit the manager in the shoulders with his closed fists and told her, “I will effing kill you” before finally leaving.

The manager complained of pain, and told officers that Mellor had been living outside the hotel on the sidewalk consistently over the past year. She stated she was afraid of further assaults or more serious actions from Mellor.

He was taken into custody and charged with 1st degree Harassment, Assault causing Bodily Injury, and Trespass. Mellor could be sentenced to up to three years in prison if convicted on all counts.
