What began as a routine traffic stop ended with the arrest of an Iowa City man on felony weapons charges.

Just after 12:15 Tuesday morning Iowa City Police pulled over a 2006 Honda Odyssey near the intersection of Mall Drive and 1st Avenue for having its taillight out. Investigators say the vehicle smelled like marijuana, and a probable cause search was conducted. Officers report locating a firearm in the glove box.

The driver, 37-year-old Donald Wood of Keokuk Street, has three previous felony convictions. He was arrested and charged with Dominion or Control of a Firearm By a Felon and Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of six years in prison.
