A Cedar Rapids man is accused of eluding Johnson County deputies late Monday night.

A deputy reports trying to conduct a traffic stop on a 2007 Toyota Prius with a headlight out as it was travelling southbound on Highway 218 just south of the Riverside Drive exit just before 10:15 p.m. Arrest records indicate the vehicle continued southbound before getting off at the Hills exit, where the pursuit was temporarily halted. The chase began again once the car was southbound on Oak Crest Hill Road and outside of Hills, with the driver eventually pulling over. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Jonathan Powell of 4th Avenue SE, reportedly claimed he had a warrant for his arrest.

Powell is charged with Eluding – 2nd Offense. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in jail. Powell has a previous Eluding conviction out of Linn County.
