Virginia man accused of operating semi while intoxicated

A Virginia man was taken into custody after allegedly operating his semi while intoxicated.

A call came into the Johnson County Communications Center Thursday at approximately 1:42 pm from a concerned citizen saying that an oversized semi was unable to maintain its lane and was driving recklessly as he was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 near mile marker 240.  A trooper observed the driver crossing over marked lines several times and conducted a stop near Oxford.

The driver, 58-year-old Scott Snyder of Stony Creek Virginia, was allegedly observed with the odor of ingested alcohol and admitted to consuming Fireball whiskey during his lunch hour.  He also reportedly admitting to having a bottle of Fireball in his cab and had been drinking from it while driving.

After showing measurable impairment on field sobriety tests, Snyder provided a PBT showing his breath-alcohol level at .149%. A Datamaster reading of .137% was also recorded.

A check of Snyder’s driving record showed a previous OWI form Sheridan Wyoming in 2015.

He was charged with his second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a maximum two years in jail if convicted.
