An Iowa City medical clinic has banned a member of its cleaning crew accused of a violent outburst last week.

Iowa City Police were called to Steindler Orthopedic Clinic on Northgate Drive just before 10:15 last Wednesday night after a member of the overnight cleaning crew, 27-year-old Devontay James of Coral Court, reportedly assaulted his co-workers. Arrest records indicate James became upset over being reprimanded by a supervisor over unsatisfactory performance. The two became involved in a physical altercation, and James eventually went outside after allegedly striking the supervisor in the face. Once in the parking lot, he reportedly started another verbal altercation with another coworker while she sat in her vehicle. James allegedly reached into the woman’s car and struck her in the face, causing a visible injury near her left eye.

James is charged with 1st Degree Burglary and two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 27 years in prison.

A representative from Steinder reached out to KCJJ on Monday to note that James is in no way involved with the business. They added that they have informed their cleaning company that James is no longer allowed on the premises.
