A suspect in an Iowa City sexual assault case has been found guilty of similar crimes in Waterloo.
27-year-old Asante Walker-Garcia Adams of Heritage Drive in North Liberty was found guilty of 1st Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Sexual Assault in Black Hawk County earlier this week. A sentencing date has not yet been set. DNA evidence tied Walker-Garcia Adams to pair of Waterloo sexual assaults that involved him reportedly breaking into residences and threatening women with a knife.

Walker-Garcia Adams was arrested by the ICPD after DNA evidence from the Waterloo cases helped develop him as a suspect in a sexual assault on the 600 block of South Lucas Street in September of 2022. He’s charged with two counts of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and one count each of 2nd Degree Robbery and 1st Degree Burglary.

Police say Walker-Garcia Adams burst through the woman’s door and attacked her while she was in bed, at one point threatening to kill her with a knife. He reportedly took money and the woman’s phone and fled the scene.

If convicted on charges from all three cases, Walker-Garcia Adams faces a maximum sentence of 160 years in prison.
