A suspect in a Columbus Junction shooting case has been given a suspended sentence.

Online court records show on Monday 25-year-old Elijah Doss of Burlington pleaded guilty to charges of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Injury, Going Armed With Intent, and 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief. Two other counts of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon Causing Injury and one count each of Attempted Murder, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Intoxicated and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief were dropped as part of a plea deal.

Louisa County Sheriff’s deputies and Columbus Junction Police responded to a report of shots fired on the 200 block of Main Street just after 4:00 on the morning of May 26th. An investigation determined two subjects were fighting when one, identified as Doss, brandished a gun. The other subject, 24-year-old Jonathan Martinez of Winfield, got into his car with a woman and a small child and started to drive away. That’s when Doss allegedly opened fire, hitting the vehicle and the Washington State Bank building. There were no reported injuries.

Martinez was arrested just after 6:15 that morning and charged with Child Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was fined $500 and the endangerment charge was dropped.

Doss was taken into custody just before 7:00 that morning.
