Organizers for an upcoming event being held at the University of Iowa say a banner advertising the event was vandalized shortly after it was put up earlier this week.
KCRG TV reports the group Young Americans for Freedom are sponsoring an event Monday night at the IMU titled “October 7: One Year Later – Hamas’s War on Jewish, Christian, American, and Western Values,” featuring writer and podcaster Ian Hawarth.
The vandalism included the word “ignorant” written across Haworth’s forehead and a Palestinian flag and the words “Free Palestine,” written across the banner.
The University of Iowa has previously stated it plans to allow and support the expression of free speech so long as its guidelines for a safe campus are met.
A replacement banner was in place, free of vandalism, by Thursday.
