Governor Kim Reynolds has authorized the deployment of the Iowa National Guard and a state-operated swift water rescue team to North Carolina to assist with efforts to recover from Hurricane Helene.

The Des Moines Register reports seven Guard members will be deployed until at least Oct. 8 and will be funded by North Carolina. The swift water rescue team is comprised of swimmers and divers from Iowa law enforcement units, many from the Cedar Rapids area.

More than 200 people have been rescued from flood waters, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. The department announced the state’s search and rescue teams are getting support from teams from 19 states and three federal teams.

Hundreds of roads remained closed statewide, including most roads in the western part of the state, according to a social media post by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
