Iowa City man accused of attacking vehicle with golf club

An Iowa City man who was allegedly intoxicated reportedly tried to break into an apartment in his complex, and damaged a vehicle parked there.

Saturday just before 11:45pm, 24-year-old Nathan Fitzpatrick of Jefferson Street was called in for alleged suspicious activity.  It was reported that he tried to break into another apartment in his complex and was intoxicated.

Upon arrival, police found Fitzpatrick screaming and stumbling in the street.  He reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and had an odor of ingested alcohol.  A bystander told an offier that Fitzpatrick walked into his apartment and punched him.  It was also reported that Fitzpatrick was previously swinging a golf club near the complex’s garage.  It was learned that Fitzpatrick allegedly took his golf clubs out of his vehicle and damaged another vehicle’s window.  The estimated damage was $500.

Fitzpatrick allegedly was unable to provide his address to police.

He was charged with 4th degree Criminal Mischief and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, Fitzpatrick could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
