Two men arrested for their alleged participation in a downtown Iowa City fight

Two men were arrested early Sunday after allegedly participating in a fight that involved employees at Elray’s Live and Dive on East Iowa Avenue.

According to the arrest reports, 20-year-old Dwayne Scott of the Quarters on Highway 6 East and 36-year-old Christopher Williams of Chicago were two of the four men involved in the assault.  The two were both seen on surveillance cameras  at approximately 12:50am stomping, kicking and punching two Elray’s staff members.

Scott reportedly kicked one of the victims in the ribs while they were lying on the ground and punched them in the face several times.  He also held another victim by the sweatshirt and hit him in the head repeatedly, and stomped the victim while they were lying on the ground. The victim provided a description of Scott, and he was allegedly found wearing the same clothes as described by the victim.

Williams reportedly kicked one of the victims in the stomach, and also hit a victim in the face repeatedly while grabbing his sweatshirt. He also allegedly hit a victim in the head before running away from the fight.

Both Scott and Williams were charged with Participating in a Riot and two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all charges, they could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

Police did not say if the two other alleged participants have been identified or arrested at this time.
