A North Liberty man being arrested for OWI earlier this week was allegedly found with a dangerously high level of alcohol on his breath.

36-year-old Ian Collins of Bradley Place was reportedly found in the driver’s seat of his pickup, parked with the vehicle running.  Officers say they noticed a strong odor of ingested alcohol, and allegedly located an open container of alcohol on the passenger seat.

Collins reportedly was unable to perform field tests, and after being unsteady on his feet fell to the ground.  A PBT allegedly found him over the legal limit. According to the arrest report, Collins took a Datamaster test showing his blood-alcohol level at .385 percent. Medical experts say at .4 percent, individuals are at risk of death.

Collins was charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
