Two North Liberty residents have been arrested after a reported large fight and ensuing robbery in Iowa City.

Iowa City Police were called to a large altercation outside a business at 1029 South Riverside Drive at 2:00 Saturday morning. At one point, 24-year-old Cristian Garcia Salas of the Golfview Estates manufactured housing community allegedly grabbed a glass beer bottle, charged at another party, and cut their knee. He then reportedly removed the person’s necklace.

Arriving officers report seeing Garcia Salas trying to enter a business while the owner was trying to stop him. Garcia Salas, who allegedly showed signs of intoxication, allegedly refused officers commands, tried to walk away, and was eventually taken into custody. He’s charged with 1st Degree Robbery, Interference With Official Acts, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over 25 years in prison.

31-year-old Estefania Melo, who lives with Garcia Salas, was also arrested. During the fight she reportedly punched one person in the face and bit another on the calf. Police say she, too, showed signs of intoxication and refused officers’ commands. Melo is charged with two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury and one count each of Interference With Official Acts  and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum of 26 months in jail.
