A 17-year-old accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old is being moved from a juvenile facility to the Johnson County Jail.
Judge David Cox ordered the move Friday after concerns that Luis Borjas Flores was a danger to himself and others at the Northwest Iowa Youth Emergency Services Center in Cherokee. Borjas Flores has reportedly been fighting with other residents, damaging property, and conducting self-harm during his stay. He also does not speak English, which prevents him from taking classes there.
Officials from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office say Borjas Flores will likely end up at the Linn County Juvenile Center as he awaits a case management conference on October 22nd.
Borjas Flores is accused of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse after reportedly engaging in sex acts with a 12-year-old girl in Iowa City last March. He’s charged as an adult, meaning he could spend up to 25 years in prison, if convicted.
