A Coralville dognapping suspect has been fined in a plea deal with prosecutors.
Court records show 30-year-old Aleksander Czerwinski of Hanover Park, Illinois…who was originally charged with 2nd Degree Theft…entered a guilty plea to a Trespassing charge on Monday. Court records show on Wednesday he was fined $260.
According to arrest records, Czerwinski took an emotional support dog from The Landing apartments on East 9th Street just before 11:15 on the night of April 21st. Czerwinski allegedly took the dog off its original leash, put it on his own personal leash, then walked away as the victim watched. Czerwinski reportedly had no right to the dog, which the victim had purchased for $1,700.
If convicted on the original charge, Czerwinski would have faced a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
