An Iowa City man is the latest suspect charged in connection with a fraudulent payroll check cashing operation that targeted a Coralville hotel.

33-year-old Joshua Hultine of North Dodge Street is charged with Forgery and 2nd Degree Theft. Hultine is accused of using a mobile device to deposit three forged payroll checks totaling $3,450 from Quality Inn on West 9th Street into his personal bank account. The deposits were made in April of 2022. While Hultine is a former Quality Inn employee, he was not employed there when he allegedly deposited the checks.

That same month, management from the Quality Inn’s home office at Pranam Corporaton found multiple fraudulent payroll checks had been forged and withdrawn from Quality Inn’s Citizens State Bank account.  The loss totaled nearly $17,600.

Several individuals have already been identified and arrested on the same charges as Hultine.

If convicted on both counts, Hultine and the other suspects each face a maximum of ten years in prison.
