A man accused of a Coralville dognapping has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

Court records show 30-year-old Aleksander Czerwinski of Hanover Park, Illinois entered a guilty plea on Monday. According to arrest records, Czerwinski took an emotional support dog from The Landing apartments on East 9th Street just before 11:15 on the night of April 21st. Czerwinski allegedly took the dog off its original leash, put it on his own personal leash, then walked away as the victim watched. Czerwinski reportedly had no right to the dog, which the victim had purchased herself.

The dog is valued at $1,700.

Czerwinski was charged with 2nd Degree Theft, which is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison upon conviction. Terms of the plea deal reached on Monday have not been released.
