An Oxford man was arrested earlier this week after allegedly crashing his vehicle and leaving the scene.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:50pm Monday. 44-year-old Gerrod Martin allegedly crashed his vehicle on Eagle Avenue near Highway 6 and rolled it into a ditch.  He then reportedly fled the scene after convincing a passerby to give him a ride. Upon contact with officers at a nearby mobile home court, he allegedly admitted to coming from the Eagle Avenue NW address of a party who has a no-contact order with him.  He also admitted to living with the protected party for an extended amount of time.  The vehicle was reportedly found with multiple open alcoholic beverage containers in the cab of his Chevy Silverado.

Martin was observed with bloodshot watery eyes, dilated pupils, slurred speech and the odor of ingested alcohol.  He also admitted to drinking prior to driving.  He refused a field test and PBTs but consented to a Datamaster test allegedly showing his breath-alcohol level at .136 percent.

Martin was charged with OWI first offense, leaving the scene of an accident, violation of a no-contact order, failure to maintain control, and an open container violation. The OWI charge comes with a maximum sentence of one year in jail if convicted.
