A Coralville man was arrested for his 3rd OWI after being stopped for excessive speeding.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 8:10pm Thursday.  39-year-old William Jones of 21st Avenue Place was clocked going 62 miles an hour in a 25 mile-per-hour zone westbound on Benton Street approaching Mormon Trek Boulevard in Iowa City.  Jones was stopped on Bartelt Road and attempted to get out of his Chevy Malibu before being ordered to remain in his vehicle.

Jones was allegedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes, dilated pupils, slurred speech and a heavy odor of ingested alcohol.  He consented to field testing but refused a PBT.

Jones was charged with OWI 3rd offense, Driving while Barred, and Driving while Revoked. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 8 years in prison.
