A new retirement community is in the planning stages for the city of Tiffin.

The Daily Iowan reports the city has started working on a housing development project to accommodate the rising number of residents. One major highlight the city has in store is a community retirement complex. City Adminstrator Doug Boldt says the population currently skews younger, with only 9.6 percent of the population aged 65 and older.

US Census data shows Tiffin’s population up by nearly 50 percent over the last four years.

Jeff Kellbach, an aging specialist with Johnson County, told the student paper that creating a large complex in a town with a growing population can be beneficial, even if it only impacts a small percentage of the total people living in an area.

The proposed complex will be divided into three sections determined by what accommodations are needed for each resident. One will treat those who need round-the clock care, another with assisted living, and the third for independent living.

The Gazette reports to provide easy access to services, the neighborhood will include a salon and barbershop, a small chapel, and other places that fill everyday needs.  Tiffin is also hoping to hire a doctor to serve as  the community medical director.

to ensure transportation will not be an issue and provide a more hospitable environment for the community.

High Property Management is developing the project with help from the city.
